people ask me alot for advice on business, yoga, becoming a full time teacher. My answer is almost always One Word: Consistency.
.
we have a tendency as humans to make things over-complicated. Men say women do this exclusively...but I've seen this as a human quality that extends across segments of our community - present company included.
.
we complicate when we are unsure. the yoga sutras refer to it as a state of being "stupefied". we literally do not have enough clarity to know what our next step should be & so...complicated.
.
we complicate when we are scared. what if we aren't good enough? what if we ARE?!? Complicated.
.
we complicate when we are being lazy. yeah, I said it. sometimes we just need an excuse because the work is hard.
Complicated.
.
what is not complicated though, is consistency. Consistency doesn't require perfection or depth. It only requires that we show up on a regular basis for the thing which we say that we want.
. At {sacred} thread we really stress the idea of a "YOGA LIFESTYLE" and not just a yoga practice, because we know that a practice can ebb and flow, but a lifestyle implies a longer term commitment. Our yoga lifestyle is a huge key in cultivating the discipline required to be present regularly and helps me remind myself that things are not that hard.
.
When I'm in class and the posture is a nemesis or something I just am so far away from ever being able to do, I find the smallest step forward. What is the smallest thing I can do to approach this posture? Business is JUST like that. So the question goes back to each one of us...when we are at our most simple & clear it is good to acknowledge - what do we want? and can we find consistency in our approach to that journey?
. Don't complicate things. Our steps need not be big or swift...they must only be consistent.
